The rich, luminous gray of certain pre-Victorian diamonds is captivating, especially because they lack the uniformity (and predictability) of today's mathematically cut stones. These late Georgian earrings (circa 1840) are no exception: each post holds six rose-cut diamonds, set in a mandala-like formation, which give off an almost blinding mirror-finish flash when exposed to the light. The pyramid-like silver settings are soldered to a rose gold backing, which is tooled beautifully on either side, and we're guessing that the posts are more recent replacements, given that the gold has a slightly yellower hue. The earrings measure about 1/2" in either direction.
