When we uncovered a huge lot of these oddly-shaped vintage brass charms, we were drawn to them for their satisfying weight. We also marveled at their similarity to a type of drop earring—resembling an elongated Greek urn—that was very popular during the archeological revival of the late 19th century. You often see this style molded from tortoiseshell, gutta percha, or a similar dark material, so we plated these earrings in gunmetal as a compromise between old and new. Each earring hangs about 1 1/4" below the ear and measures 5/8" at the widest point. The posts and backs are plated in 14K gold.
