Alcoholic's Necklace (sterling silver)
$80.00
A 1" diamond-shaped religious medallion found at Spitalfield's Antiques Market in London has been cast in sterling silver and strung on a 21" silver box chain. A swirling scroll on the front reads, "I promise to abstain from all intoxicating drinks as beverages." The original pendant was intended to be worn by teetotalers or recovering alcoholics, and dates back to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The back depicts a woman pouring a drink for a young child, presumably for medicinal purposes. This is a perfect accessory for a variety of occasions, including 12-step meetings, Saturday nights at the bar, or mimosas at brunch.
