These stones come from Herkimer, a town in upstate New York. You can go camping and mine your own.
Despite their diamond misnomer, Herkimers are six-sided, double-terminated quartz crystals and are relatively valueless. Unscrupulous jewelers during the Civil War tried to pass them off as REAL diamonds, but we think they have a charm of their own. Each mini Herk is set by hand and has it's own unique quirks: irregular facets, dark or light inclusions, and/or rough edges should be appreciated as special qualities in your uncut, unpolished stone.
