Acrostic Necklace

$550.00
About Details Inspiration

Jewelry has always been a very intimate way to commemorate an important event or sentiment, and acrostic jewelry can personalize it to the next level.  Napolean Bonaparte commissioned acrostic pieces for his loved ones.  Political views were expressed through the language of gems: ("REPEAL" and "SUFFRAGE").  What do you have to say?  Spell out a new baby or mom's name, or a dirty word.  We've seen it all and we promise we won't judge you.  This type of rainbow-hued coded communication won't usually be decipherable by anyone but you and the wearer.

"Acrostic" jewelry first appeared in the early 1800's as a way to convey secret messages through jewelry.  Each letter in the alphabet was assigned to a different precious stone, and the so-called "language of gems" emerged.  The first letter of each gemstone, when read left to right, spells out a word or phrase.  A Victorian favorite was "DEAREST":

Diamond
