Caged Emerald Necklace

About Details Inspiration
This petite (just 1/4" in diameter) cube-shaped cage has a chunk of raw emerald trapped inside. The green stone is left in it's unpolished rough natural state, which is a nice contrast against the structural geometry of it's container. The emerald rattles around inside the cage which in turn moves freely along it's golden chain.

For the past 4000 years, emeralds have been considered to be precious, powerful, healing stones.  Aristotle wrote that owning an emerald increases the owner’s importance in presence and speech during business, gives victory in trials, helps settle litigation, and comforts and soothes eyesight.  The ancient Egyptians believed the emerald stood for fertility and rebirth, and Cleopatra was a huge fan: her private emerald mine in upper Egypt was just re-discovered 100 years ago.  In Ancient Rome, Nero supposedly watched gladiator fights through a large transparent emerald as he found the color to be calming.  In some legends of King Arthur, the Holy Grail is described as being fashioned from an emerald.  In the Middle Ages, emeralds were believed to reveal what was true or false and was said to be a sure antidote for enchantments and spells.  Even more magically, emeralds were said to enable people to foretell the future if they were put on the tongue or worn on the left side of the body.  Queen Elizabeth, Princess Grace of Monaco, Elizabeth Taylor, and Jaqueline Bouvier wore some of the 20th Century's most fabulous emeralds.
