Early Victorian Green Paste Drop Earrings

Back in the 1850s (as now!) emeralds this size would have cost roughly a bajillion dollars, so people turned to paste. Paste was the handmade, vibrant alternative to fine gemstones. These paste rectangles are as clear the finest emeralds, with the same otherworldly green glow and the same stonecutting treatment. And the goldsmith used his skill to create mountings identical to what he'd use for the real thing.
