This gold pomander studded with turquoise was designed to hang from a woman's chatelaine or on a gentleman's fob chain. This perforated orb was intended to do the same work as the vinaigrette and held a sponge scented with perfume used to mask the unpleasant smells encountered in day-to-day life. The pomander unscrews to open and features British hallmarks dating it to 1901.
