Aquamarine gets its name from the Latin aqua marinus, meaning "sea water". In Ancient Greece, the stone was aligned with the god of the sea, Poseidon. Aquamarine amulets carved with an image of the deity were often carried by sailors as protective talismans on ocean voyages. According to the New Age school of thinking, aquamarine is believed to open channels of communication and promote peace and harmony. These Georgian earrings feature two foil backed aquamarines haloed in seed pearls.
