GeorgianCoiled Snake Mourning Broochwith Pearls and Rubies
This Victorian era mourning brooch is exquisitely fashioned in the shape of a twice coiled ouroboros. The snake's body is set with seed pearls - used in Victorian mourning jewelry to symbolize tears - and two flat-cut rubies make up the serpent's eyes. The locket at the center features very finely plaited hairwork under glass. This beautiful and usual mourning piece tests as 14k gold and is in excellent antique condition.
