Georgian French Jet Locket/Brooch

French jet is a black glass that was developed in the Victorian era to be used as a substitute for natural jet in mourning jewelry. This mourning locket features a frame of rose cut French jet and twisted gold wire and can be worn as a brooch or a pendant. The reverse side is engraved: “R.G. Aged 36 died 16th April 1828”. Originally, the locket would have held a lock of hair but is now empty.
