Georgian Opaline, Blue & White Paste Earrings

This particularly lovely pair of opaline, blue and white paste earrings date to around 1800. Opaline glass - a semi matte opalescent glass with peach and blue tones - was invented in 17th century Italy and became wildly popular in France during the reign of Napoleon III. We rarely find opaline jewelry but when we do, we buy it, even if the condition is less than perfect. These exquisite floral themed earrings are in lovely antique condition but are slightly different lengths which suggests they were originally part of a larger piece of jewelry.
