Georgian Planetary Ring

An early 19th century eternity band set with a harlequin array of gemstones in closed back settings. This riotously colorful ring is not just a piece of harlequin jewelry, but a planetary ring - a novelty piece that reflects the widespread enthusiasm for both science and astrology and at the time - and each gemstone represents a planet or astronomical feature. The gems employed are fire opal, rock crystal, green tourmaline, pearl, sapphire, ruby and garnet. The rock crystal represents Venus, the garnet North Node, green tourmaline Mercury, fire opal Mars, emerald Mercury, ruby Sun, sapphire Saturn and pearl Moon.
