Made in lightly rose-tinted gold, this piece is gracefully composed with split shoulders and three bright rose cut diamonds. The crimped silver settings with closed, foiled backs are typical in Georgian jewelry: the foil was set behind the diamond to add light and sparkle to the stone. It certainly does this job, but it means that you have to remove the ring before showering or washing your hands. It's possible that water can seep between the stone and the foil, oxidize, and darken.

Foil-backed gemstones may be irreparably damaged if they come into contact with water. Remove your jewelry when washing your hands or showering. If moisture gets behind the stone, the foil could oxidize and darken. These jewels are extremely old, fragile objects and were not designed to be worn every day. Treat them as the museum-quality artifacts that they are.
