Late VictorianGold Bird and Pearl EggNecklace
This beautifully detailed late Victorian bird in flight was originally a stickpin or brooch and was converted into a necklace at some point in the recent past. At its feet is a pearl, presumably representing an egg though as far as I know, no species of bird lays eggs whilst flying. An aesthetic choice rather than a practical one on the part of the jeweler. Hangs from a 15.5" chain.
