Mid 19th Century “Remember” Aluminum Bangle
Sold!

In the 1860s, aluminum - for a short period - was more valuable than gold. It was discovered in 1825, but it was difficult to extract before commercial electricity became available (around 1880.) And so for that short time, people made jewelry out of aluminum. This gilded bracelet is emblazoned "REMEMBER". I cannot overstate how rare this piece is. It was made around the time of the Paris Exposition in 1867, when all the newest inventions from around the globe were presented in one wild place.
