About Details Inspiration

Providence, Rhode Island manufactured rhinestones en masse throughout the 20th century, but most of the factories moved abroad or shut down in the last few decades. Lucky for us, we know where to find their leftover vintage loot. These tiny (just 3/16") baguette-shaped crystal rhinestones, saved from long-term storage oblivion, have brass settings and new gold fill posts.

In 1775, the rhinestone was invented by an enterprising jeweler in either Vienna or Alsace, depending on which story you believe. He coated the back side of a glass gem with metal powder, reflecting incoming light and creating incredible sparkle. Because the work was done completely by hand, they were expensive - sometimes costing more than precious gems - and available to only the super-rich.
