Serpent Drops

About Details

Serpents have appeared in jewelry since ancient times. What makes the snake symbol so intriguing to mankind seems to be its dual expression of good and evil, fertility and rebirth, poison and medicine.  Different civilizations have ascribed a variety of meanings to the serpent: to the Egyptians it represented royalty and divine authority; in Hinduisim, sexual passion; and the Romans interpreted the snake as a symbol of everlasting love. Queen Victoria wore a serpent-shaped engagement ring with an emerald set into it's head - it symbolized the eternal devotion she shared with her lover, and it's our inspiration for these 14k gold earrings.  The mythic beasts coil around moonstone teardrops, eyes glittering with tiny diamonds.  The pendants are lapis lazuli - the deep blue gemstone was a favorite of Cleopatra's, arguably history's most famous wearer of serpent jewelry.
