These hand-cast brass rings were modified from a much-used 19th-century Scottish wax seal. The original piece had multiple stamps with wonderfully cryptic sentiments and images, all appearing in mirror-image reverse. This was so when the seal was pressed into hot wax, the text would be embossed legibly, right-side-around. We picked our three favorite stamps and added ring bases and stones, making sure to leave lots of rustic detail intact to reference the object's utilitarian history.

"WATCH O'ER YOU": The first official use of the all seeing eye dates back to 1797 when the Masons adopted the symbol as a seal. "And although our thoughts, words and actions, may be hidden from the eyes of man, yet that All-Seeing Eye, whom the Sun, Moon and Stars obey, and under whose watchful care even comets perform their stupendous revolutions, pervades the inmost recesses of the human heart, and will reward us according to our merits." ~ Thomas Smith. In the center of this all-seeing eye we've set a 1.5mm ruby.
"FORGET ME NOT" was a popular phrase that appeared in jewelry during the Victorian Era, and often was accompanied by the image of the blue forget-me-not flower. Sometimes lovers would exchange forget-me-not-jewels before they were going to be separated for long periods of time, but female friends also swapped them: Queen Victoria gave her bridesmaids forget-me-not turquoise brooches as keepsakes. We've ditched the traditional light-blue color associated with the flower and subbed in a 1.5mm orange sapphire.
