Agate crystals occur in many hues and typically grows as a layer stones. Sometimes these layers are strikingly different colors, and this contrast can be used to great effect in cameos, intaglios, or in the case of this Victorian brooch (also a locket!), to create a pretty halo around the primary stone and stripes through the agates that surround it. Metaphysically speaking, the multiple layers of the agate crystal have the power to elicit hidden truths and balance yin and yang.
