Victorian Diamond Fly & Carbuncle Necklace


The Victorians loved portraying all kinds of animals and insects in jewelry form. This pendant features a bejeweled silver fly perched atop a carbuncle (aka a massive red garnet cabochon). The Etruscan Revival frame is decorated with granulation and an abundance of twisted wire.

    10k (tests), silver, 5 rose cut diamonds, garnet eyes, new 14k gold chain

    c. 1860

  • Condition

    Very good - was probably part or a larger piece of jewelry that was broken apart

    1 3/8" including the bale, 18" chain
