This hexagonal clasp is made in gold with blue, black and green champlevé enamel work decorating each of its six sides. Made c. 1850, the barrel has a cleverly designed cross-shaped cut out which allows the tongue of the clasp to be inserted in any of four different directions. This feature permits the wearer to choose which of varying floral designs face outward.
