Victorian Foliate Agate Case Pendant

This Victorian era pendant, reminiscent of a walnut in shape, hinges open at the top to reveal that is, in fact, a small case. Who knows what it was designed to hold, perhaps snuff, herbs or perfume. The decorative case features both texture and dimension created by a combination of repoussé and engraving. Each side of the pendant is set with an oval agate cabochon.
