"French jet"- actually black glass - became the go-to material for producing mourning jewelry during the mid to late Victorian era. It was a reasonably affordable alternative to Whitby jet, a form of fossilized wood mined from one small area in England. This incredible fringe necklace features a mix of French jet faceted squares and navette-shaped drops finished with black lacquer backs.
