The high relief texture created by cannetille (spiral filigree) and grainti (granules or granulation) came into fashion in the mid 19th century. This innovation in jewelry technique made it possible to create ornate finishes and intricate styles while using less gold in the production process. These fabulous Victorian earrings (vaguely reminiscent in style to a mace, but you know, fancier) are made in 18k gold and detailed to the hilt with grainti haloed in cannetille.
