Victorian Greek Key Pique Earrings

$1,400

Sold!

IF THE AMPHORA was the Victorian shorthand shape for Neoclassicism, the "meander" pattern was the shorthand pattern. The zigzagging line is often referred to as "Greek key" even though if appears thousands of years before ancient Greek culture, thousands of miles away from Greece, and among faraway continents. Again, the Victorians didn't care about authenticity, they just loved a Neoclassical look. Here, it's rendered in gold pressed into tortoiseshell.
