This wonderful gold and bloodstone Victorian intaglio signet ring features a gentleman in profile beneath the Latin “Honorem Perseverando Petimus” which translates to “We seek honor through perseverance.” The reverse side features the initials “JWB.” This motto is in evidence on the armorial bookplates of Richard Samuel White, Esq who had a law practice with a man named William Beckford. This piece may or may not be associated with these men, but given the motto and monogram, it’s as close as we've come to deciphering this fantastic ring’s provenance. The shank features full British hallmarks and was assayed in 1889. This postdates the use of wax seals on correspondence, so this signet ring was made to be worn more as a prestige piece rather than as a useful piece.
