Victorian Lyre Cameo Earrings

The lyre was the most well-known instrument in the ancient Greek world where it was played during recitations of lyric poetry (among other places and times, of course). It follows that the Victorians, obsessed with ancient classical culture, worked this theme into their jewelry lexicon. These coral lyre cameos are mounted in gold and were most likely purchased as a souvenir of someone's Grand Tour.
