Victorian Niello Chain

Niello is a black metallic alloy sometimes mistaken for black enamel. Offering similar feel and function as traditional enamel, the dark material has been used to decorate jewelry since the days of Ancient Egypt. This late Victorian piece oozes with the sort of understated, yet edgy vibe inherent in many niello adorned jewels. The necklace's stunning, oversized silver links and clasp have been cut and filled with the metallic black pigment and alternate with warm, gold links. The result is a chic striped pattern surrounded by a blend of gorgeously contrasting tones.
