Victorian Oyster ShellMourning Locket

This beautifully rendered Victorian bivalve is fashioned in gold and opens to reveal a locket with hairwork in the shape of flowers and an engraved dedication which reads "M Ob July 19 1869". A far from traditional mourning piece, it seems likely that the owner repurposed this oyster locket to create a remembrance for "M".
