This outstanding Victorian wax seal fob features a beautifully carved carnelian skull intaglio on one side and an amethyst intaglio with name "George" on the other. The use of skull imagery is a bit unusual for the time this piece was made (c. 1850), and is evocative of the memento mori amulets and rings popularly worn from 16th century through the very early 1800s.
