This phenomenal winged skull memento mori ring is a hybrid composed of pieces from the Georgian era with wing elements most likely added in the teens or early '20s. Memento mori is a Latin phrase that means "remember you must die", memento mori jewelry was popularly worn beginning in the 16th century up through the early 1800s as a constant reminder to lead a virtuous life. The 12k band (c. 1800) features a Latin engraving which translates to "my bones have grown old". The skull, also dating to the early 1800s, is set with a rose cut diamond in each eye. Each white gold wing is studded with seven deep blue sapphires.
