Georgian Rose Cut Diamond Mourning Ring

$6,200

Sold!

RUTH WORKMAN died on July 5, 1739, at the age of 66. She must have been both beloved and wealthy—not everyone could afford to mount large diamonds on their mourning rings. In the 18th century, mourning rings were custom-ordered by the family and distributed at the funeral, a tradition reserved for prominent families. The number of rings commissioned—and the materials used—reflected the deceased’s status. It was common for wills to specify how many rings should be made and who should receive them, ensuring that the memory of the departed lived on through those who wore them.
