Neoclassicism was an obsession for the Victorians. In this ring, the Greek god Hermes (aka Mercury, if you were an ancient Rome fan) is rendered in onyx. How do we know it's Hermes? The wings on his "traveler's cap" give him away. He was the god of messengers and travelers. Sometimes you'd see wings on his shoes, which meant basically the same thing. Speedy delivery! There's a lot more to the lore of Hermes: as time went on, he was associated with luck, shepherds, athletes, thieves, and merchants, so this ring can represent many things to many people.
